The Masters of the Medium award recognizes artists of consummate craftsmanship who have contributed to and influenced their chosen fields. All Alliance Members are eligible to vote for one artist in each of five fields. The Masters of the Medium awards were initiated in 1997 on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of the James Renwick Alliance and the twenty-fifth anniversary of the Renwick Gallery. The James Renwick Alliance established Distinguished Educators Awards in recognition of the crucial role of craft education in training artists in the techniques of their media, in grounding students to the contributions of their artistic predecessors, and in developing artistic vision. Recipients may be current or retired educators. The Distinguished Craft Educators Awards are given biennially in even numbered years. The recipients meet the following criteria:
• Their peers in the craft field recognize them as distinguished educators.
• They have made significant contributions to American craft education.
• They have a reputation for excellence and innovation in teaching.
• They have had exceptional influence on students in a craft education program.
The 2010 Award winners will be honored at Spring Craft Weekend, April 23-25:
